Pat Smullen completes Galway Treble

The O'Driscoll O'Neil sponsorship of Champion Jockey Pat Smullen continues to go from strength to strength as Pat Smullen completed an outstanding treble of wins at the Galway Races on Tuesday.

" STUNNING VIEW came storming down the middle of the trackin the home straight to give trainer Dermot Weld and jockey Pat Smullen more Galway success on Tuesday.

The 7-1 joint-favourite was a second winner on the night for the trainer and jockey combination after Rainforest Magic's victory in the previous race. The pair went on to complete a treble when Catch The Eye took the final race on the card.

Despite routinely farming many of the races at the festival, some had questioned the form of Weld's runners after he struck just once in the opening nine races of the meeting.

However, Rainforest Magic provided him with a second and the Dr Ronan Lambe-owned Stunning View was an emphatic winner after catching frontrunner Royal Blue Star in the final furlong.

It had looked as though jockey Shane Foley had outsmarted his rivals as he kicked off the home bend and clear on the Jessica Harrington-trained Royal Blue Star.

But, having been moved through to take second approaching the bend, Stunning View and Smullen were not going to let the leader away that easily and they swept past to score by two lengths.

Royal Blue Star took second from fellow three-year-old Defining Year with Mid Mon Lady claiming fourth place.

Weld said: "He likes a little bit of ease in the ground and my concern was that it might be a bit quick for him but he did it well.

"It's logical to go for a Listed race with him. Although he'sin [at Galway] later in the week, I think that will be it for him."
