Essential covers for Theatre Forum Members:

Public Liability Insurance

Public liability insurance is designed to cover third party claims against you or your business for bodily injury and/or loss of or damage to property not including property in your care, custody and control which should be insured under a property policy. Someone making a claim against you has to prove that their claim was caused by your negligence but even if you think you weren’t negligent you need this protection to cover the very expensive costs of defending such a claim through the Courts.

Employers Liability

This insurance covers you or your business against claims made against you by employees for accidents or illness occurring as a result of their employment by you. Like public liability you are only liable if you are negligent but the law does impose quite a strict duty of care on an employer so such cover is vital. Even if you only occasionally hire staff, or casual or seasonal workers, you could be exposed so you need this cover.

Property Insurance

Property insurance protects your business if your premises or contents are damaged by fire, theft or other “perils” such as storm, flood or accidental damage. Your buildings should be insured for the full rebuilding cost (including professional fees) – not its market value. Your contents should be insured for their replacement cost apart from stock which is insured for its invoice (purchase) price.
